Yolanda Gant started giving out toys and donations through local churches back in 1999, after seeing firsthand how many children went without on Christmas morning. Her goal was simple then and hasn't changed since: every child deserves a gift.
She kept that work going through churches for over 20 years — until 2020, when she decided to start something of her own. Not bound to any one church, she could have her own location and reach families who might not feel comfortable walking into a church for help, but who truly needed it.
The name is a play on words: Yolanda's grandchildren call her "Yaya." Married to her husband since 1998, she's raised seven children and nine grandchildren together with him, and has been a Girl Scout troop leader for over 25 years, running a Girl Scout camp that empowers young women. Yaya's Heart grew out of a lifetime spent showing up for kids.
